Hemp Hugger.

Happy Friday!

Y’all into hemp?

No, I don’t mean the necklaces we all wore in high school (I realize my high school time was when some of you were in the womb, but that’s as much acknowledgement as I’m going to give it today).

I’m also not talking about the more wacky incarnation of hemp that your parents frown upon.

Heh…No no, I’m talking about hulled hemp seeds! These nutty little seeds are not only edible, but outrageously good for you!

(Remember that one time when I also told you to go ahead and eat the Chia Pet seeds? Heh. We have fun.)

ANYWAY hulled hemp seeds, much like Chias, are high in healthy fats, fiber and protein. They are great sources of several vitamins and minerals, too! The coolest part, though, is that they contain all the known 21 essential amino acids, including the 9 amino acids that humans can’t produce on their own. Amazing little plant-based buggers!

What to do with them? Well, much like Chias again, I will throw them into pretty much anything. They have a very neutral taste, which makes it so easy to get their extra nutrition into a variety of things!

Here are some ideas:

  • mixed into oatmeal or cold cereal
  • sprinkled on salads
  • mixed into your favorite nutbutter or hummus for even more nutrition and protein
  • blended into your GREEN BEAST
  • mixed into your CHIA PUDDING
  • Mixed into your fave cookie dough and baked (though they are most potent raw)

Hulled hemp seeds can be found in most health food stores (Bob’s Red Mill is a pretty common brand). They can be a little pricey so I wait until they’re on sale, or I look for a deal online!

Have you ever tried Hemp seeds? What do you put them in?

Try them please! You won’t regret it. Let me know what you think :)
